Italy issues passports to its citizens for the purpose of traveling abroad (in Italian: Passaporto Italiana). It is also a constitutional right for every Italian citizen to be a citizen of the European Union. With the passport and national identity card, you have the right to move and reside anywhere in the EU and EEA.
Since May 2010, there has been a new biometric passport system. This chip contains the photo of the holder, name, date of birth, gender, nationality, and passport number.
